Recently the actors who were first singers are more active than ever before, and among them, Lee Seunggi and JYJ’s Park Yoochun accomplished notable success as actors. They proudly showcase their great acting abilities which parallel that of experienced actors, and made the audience forget that they were first singers.

‘Rooftop Prince’ of SBS and ‘The King2hearts’ of MBC, were aired on the same time and what’s more, they were both dramas containing princes. This competition between the two dramas finally ended on the 25th.

– “Rooftop Prince” Park Yoochun: From Seriousness to Laughter
Park Yoochun took on the challenge of acting two roles in this drama. In order to investigate the murder case of Joseon Crown Princess, Crown Prince Lee Gak, who traveled 300 years, took on the role of Home&Shopping heir Yong Taeyong.

In the beginning, the Crown Prince guards himself with seriousness and strictness. I think it may be Yoochun’s experience in “Sungkyunkuan Scandal” that allowed him to play that role easily. However, as soon as Lee Gak traveled to modern times, Yoochun started his acting that instigated so much laughter and created all the funny events.

As such, Park Yoochun’s Lee Gak was born. Though seriousness and laughter are completely opposite concepts and if leaning towards either of them it would shake Lee Gak’s role, Yoochun didn’t lose his center and showed all the faces of Lee Gak. Thus, through “Sungkyunkuan Scandal”, “Miss Ripley” and now “Rooftop Prince”, Park Yoochun has successfully put on the clothes of an actor.

– Winner is?

Between Park Yoochun and Lee Seunggi, they really played an even battle. Even the rating was fairly similar. However, there must be a winner, thus this round is won by Park Yoochun.
“Rooftop Prince” is a drama that holds characteristics of that of a period, mystery, and romance drama. Fitting Park Yoochun’s multi-faceted acting skills, he perfectly digested Lee Gak’s personality and role.

▲ JYJ  Kim Junsu concert

A fan, whom I met at Seoul Jamsil Indoor Stadium on May 20th when a popular group JYJ’s member Kim Junsu held his first solo concert, expressed her concern that “the reality of a competent artist with many talents being boycotted by broadcasting companies is sorrowful. I do not know until when they have to be chained to unfair restrictions and pressures.”

A middle aged female fan who lives in Yangchun-gu, Seoul asked back “is it logical that there is no television stage, which a leader of Hallyu(Korean wave) star can stand on after releasing the solo album?” and she hoped “not only Kim Junsu but JYJ members can share musical communion with the public on television as soon as possible.”

Fans’ resentments toward music programs, which shut their doors to the appearance of JYJ, is getting higher again. This became stronger after Kim Junsu’s concert.

Fans are expressing their sadness that they “cannot see JYJ on music programs although they are one of best singers regarding their abilities and presence in Korea” and opposed to this situation by saying “this (banning JYJ) is a great loss in Korean music industry” on various internet communities.

Kim Junsu honestly confessed the reality and his worry during the press conference for the release of his album: “making the album under the assumption that I cannot be on television was one of the greatest worries (I had). This is an obvious situation which made me enervated.”

Most officials/staffs of entertainment industry have the same view that JYJ being banned on music program, which already became long-term, is abnormal and deformed.

The fact that their music cannot be aired on television, despite the fact that three members have already won various suits including the exclusive contract suspension injunction against ex-company SM Entertainment and the fact that the court has guaranteed their freedom for entertainment activities including appearing on television, proves there is a group of unfair and unjust authority in the broadcasting industry.

Thus we can point out that they (JYJ) became victims of the fight for hegemony which derived from the composition of authority in entertainment industry and broadcast industry.

However, we have to cognize the fact that the channels where their music can be shared have increased and their effects surpassed the effects by media while JYJ has been completely isolated and restricted from the broadcasting industry.

Fans, who love JYJ, have increased all over the world and became more intimate. Members imprinted their presences to the public through various areas including music, drama, musical and etc. and have armed more firmly.

In reality, the music video ‘Tarantallegra,’ the title song of Kim Junsu’s solo album attracted viewers around the world as soon as it has been released and passed 3million views. Also, his album sold more than 100 thousand copies beating Lady Gaga and Justin Bieber in ITunes, Rakuten, Amazone Japan, and etc in Japan. This result is more valuable as he has achieved it without any activity in Japan recently.

Prohibition on JYJ appearing on television is no longer appropriate or persuasive. It is embarrassing because ‘neglecting’ JYJ continuously caused the exposure of unfair/narrow-minded relationship between Korean popular music industry and the broadcast industry to the global music market.

It is compromising that backwardness of Korean pop music industry has been exposed to Hallyu (Korean wave) fans. In one word, it (JYJ being boycotted) is a waste/loss for national power of Hallyu.

Maybe fans’ complaints and appeals toward broadcasting companies, which have high barriers and restrictions against JYJ, might be portrayed undersized. It might seem reckless and portrayed as throwing an egg against the rock. [TN: It is a Korean proverb/idiom which means ‘beating one’s head against a wall’]

However, the broadcasting companies, which truckled to the large authority of entertainment industry, should remember: there are many methods to break the rock/wall, and that disgusting ‘stain,’ even if it is hard to break a wall with eggs, will remain in the memory of the history forever.

i really love this report……and i can’t say more except agree with this reporter. If the banning keep going then SK…..be ready for get a great loss especially in entertainment industry. maybe it’s true that money is an important thing in this world but there are so many things in this world can’t be bought by money. For those people who keep denied the boys existence  in  SK entertainment industry, remember this :

[NEWS] 120518 Action-comedy

Jackal Is Coming begins shooting

Photobucket

Filming has begun on The Jackal Is Coming, an action comedy movie that pretty much hooked my interest with its one-line premise: A bungling killer (Song Ji-hyo) is hired to kidnap an pop singer (Jaejoong) and fails in multiple ways to kill him. There’s no mention of it in the description so far, but does she also fall in love with him? That’s the obvious conclusion, isn’t it? Obvious in the way of Korean movies and dramas, I mean, not obvious in the way of life, because that’s just insane.

The casting seems pretty spot-on, and the goofy plotline has plenty of comic possibilities. I’m basically seeing it as another version of the Myung-wol the Spy concept, except hopefully funnier, and with a hopefully less asstastic hero. Basically I’m just looking for somebody to reboot that premise and do it justice, since I want it to work, despite the mess that the series was.

Meanwhile, the pop singer will also have a dogged, invasive stalker (the kind known as a “sasaeng fan,” which describes those fans with no concept of boundaries or privacy concerns when it comes to their favorite idol oppas), played by Joo Min-ha (Queen of Housewives).

These stills come from the movie’s first shoots, taken in a factory where our heroine, Song Ji-hyo, finds herself in the midst of a police chase. The role calls for a decent amount of action, as these stills suggest, and I think I’ve seen enough of Ace Ji-hyo on Running Manto say she’s up to the task.

The movie plans to release later this year.

[NEWS] 120523 Jaejoong’s visit to

Taiwan for fan meet paralyzes

the airport

On May 23rd, JYJ‘s Jaejoong visited Taiwan for his ‘2012 KIM JAE JOONG FAN MEETING IN TAIPEI‘ event in promotion for his drama, ‘Protect the Boss‘.

From the moment of his arrival, Jaejoong was greeted by the deafening cheers of 600 fans that had gathered at the airport. An official of the airport revealed, “It was supposed to be a brief visit just for his fan meeting so we didn’t think so many people would show up at the airport.” Local newspapers reported that his arrival had actually paralyzed the airport.

Event sponsors revealed, “‘Protect the Boss’ has recently successfully concluded its run in Taiwan, but the passion for the drama still runs high, as there have been discussions for reruns in the future. We released 2,500 seats for the fan meet, and all of them were sold out within seconds of going on sale, with the actual server crashing in the mean time. We’re all surprised with Jaejoong’s popularity.”

Jaejoong kicked off his fan meet with live performances of his ‘Protect the Boss’ OST before moving on to playing games with his fans, revealing what he keeps in his personal bag, and a final performance of “No Gain“, a self-composition included in fellow member Junsu‘s solo album.

Jaejoong stated, “It’s been a year since I last visited Taiwan last year for our world tour. I missed you all. Thank you for the unchanging support. I hope that my fans had as much fun during these two hours as I had. I hope to see you again soon.”

A rep from the airport said, “I didn’t know so many people would gather to see him on a weekday because he would be staying in the country for a short while for his fanmeeting,” and a Taiwanese newspaper likewise reported that he had ‘blocked up the airport’ with his popularity.

A source from the hosting company stated, “Protect the Boss, which was highly popular in Korea last year, finished airing in Taiwan also after gathering much popularity, and it’s showing no signs of cooling down as word is spreading about another set of broadcasts. I was surprised at how popular [Kim Jae Joong] was when the 2,500 seats for the fanmeeting sold out as soon as they were made available and took down the servers.”

Protect the Boss earned fans not only in Asia but also Europe and South America watch through live online broadcasts, and it set records regarding overseas sales to Japan, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, the Philippines, Mongolia, Kazakhstan and Ukraine.

He then played games with his fans, revealed what he carries around in his bag and sang his self-written song No Gain, which he gave as a present to Kim Junsu for his solo album, without any accompaniment. The two hours he devoted to his fans were enough to make them happy.

He also seemed to have spread the Korean wave even farther. The interest his Taiwanese fans had toward Kim Jae Joong led to an interest in the Korean language, and fans were able to burst out in laughter after understanding what he said onstage immediately. They also answered his Korean questions in Korean. There was no need for an interpreter.

Kim Jae Joong said, “It’s been a year since I’ve been in Taiwan since the world tour last year. I really missed you. I want to thank you for your undying interest and support, and I hope you had a great time these last two hours, like I did. I’ll be back with more great news.”

[Concert Review] Kim Junsu (Xia)

Flies High in Solo Concert

He was alone onstage but the stage was full of his presence. His eight years of experience shone brightly. Kim Junsu soared high not with TVXQ or JYJ, but alone in his first solo concert held from May 19-20.

Photobucket

He showed how much effort he had put into the concert in the performances for the songs from his first solo album. He started with Breath, and sang his way through No Gain, Even Though You Already Know and Around and Around.
Kim Junsu’s teamwork with the eight foreign dancers, four men and four women, was also a sight to see. Jeri Slaughter, Christina Aguilera’s choreographer, had picked out the members of the dance team through an audition held in America, and the team helped make Kim Junsu’s performance shine.
The performance of Kim Junsu’s first single cut Tarantallegra, the title of a ′magic spell′ , made the singer’s audience feel as if they had been pulled into a mystic world. The large LED screen, 7m high and 12m wide, and a 10m high pyramid lift, used for the first time ever in Korea, all added to the experience.
Kim Junsu then turned on the sexy with his performances of Lullaby and Fever. His use of mirrors in the performance for Lullaby was especially intriguing. Moreover, he showed his polished acting skills from his experience as a musical actor through Even Though You Already Know, I Don’t Like Love and You are so Beautiful. It was as if his audience was watching on as he performed in a full musical.

Photobucket

Of course, Kim Junsu was happy about his first solo concert, but he revealed that it hadn’t been easy to get there.

“I was hesitant on releasing a solo album because of the many limits I face, but I think it’s great that I did. It was more hard for me because, as you know, I’m limited in my appearances on televised broadcasts, and I started with the knowledge that I can’t promote my album openly even after I release it. It was harder to put together a 12 track album in the midst [of such difficulties],” he said.

As if to make up for the hard times, Kim Junsu seemed to be pouring all of his energy into every performance.

The concert only lasted two hours, but it was passionate enough to leave an impression on his fans who wouldn’t be able to see his performances on television again. Sometimes he bewitched and sometimes he soothed; Kim Junsu thus succeeded in casting his own brand of magic on his fans.

A rep from Kim Junsu’s agency C-JeS Entertainment told enews on May 20, “The concert sold out all of its tickets as soon as they were opened for sale last month, and fans from all over the world came in to celebrate Xia’s (Kim Junsu) first solo concert. There were so many fans who passed out in the middle, we plan to prepare more ambulances for today’s performance. It was such a splendid concert that fans couldn’t seem to pull themselves away from the venue after the exciting two hours had gone by.”
Kim Junsu told a perfect 90 minute long story with 17 performances, which included 11 songs from his first studio album and a few musical numbers. Jeri Slaughter, the man best known for being Christina Aguilera’s choreographer, held auditions in America for Kim Junsu’s concert and managed to put together the best dance team.
He perfected the performances of the concert’s main attractions, including those for Tarantallegra, No Gain and Breath.

Kim Junsu matched Jeri Slaughter’s hard work with his own set of skills. The top-class idol’s moves synced perfectly with his dancers’, and he received cheers from his fans for his sexy performances of Lullaby and Intoxication. The musical numbers and Even Though You Already Know, I Don’t Like Love and You are so Beautiful emphasized his vocals and hearty emotions.

“I was hesitant on releasing a solo album because of the many limits I face, but I think it’s great that I did. I’m so happy and moved to be able to meet with my fans, have them listen to my music and stand on stage. I want to sincerely thank all of my fans.”

[NEWS] 120521 Kim Junsu Solo is

No. 1 in Japan

Kim Jun-su’s debut solo album has topped Japan’s iTunes chart just days after being released on May 15.

According to Japanese iTunes on Friday, the album entitled “Xia Tarantallegra” overtook Justin Bieber and Lady Gaga to take the coveted spot on the iTunes Album Chart.

The singer is hugely popular in Japan, and fans there put their names down on a waiting list to purchase the album even before its official release date.

The album also became the most ordered in May on Tower Records’ and Amazon Japan’s Web sites.

“As the singer has been active in Japan until recently, his popularity is just surging,” said a representative from Kim’s agency, CJeS Entertainment.

In Korea too, the album has topped various charts and is being heralded as a well-made album by critics, who praise its new and original sound that is not characteristic of K-pop.

At a press conference last week, Kim said the theme of his album is “androgynous wizard.” He has taken to cross-dressing to promote it.

Junsu’s first solo album Xia Tarantallegra claimed the 9th spot on Oricon’s weekly album chart upon its release on May 20. His smooth start didn’t go unnoticed since his album climbed the chart so quickly within its first day of release.

His twin brother, Junho, isn’t far behind. His single “Everything” which was released on May 16, reached the 10th place on Oricon’s weekly singles Chart.

With the recent success of K-pop in Japan, seeing Korean singers/groups securing spots in the top 10 on Japan’s Oricon chart isn’t rare. However, seeing twin brothers ranking high on Oricon’s weekly chart is rare enough to draw much attention.

Places Tenth on Billboard World

Albums Chart

JYJ’s Kim Junsu’s first solo album Tarantallegra is continuing to find success in charts abroad and has most recently placed in the Billboard World Albums Chart.

Recently, Billboard unveiled its chart ranking for the week of June 2, 2012.

Making its debut on the charts, Tarantallegra was found to have placed tenth on the chart. Astounding is the fact that Kim Junsu has not been able to perform any of his album’s songs in Korea and yet still managed to achieve this feat.

Since Tarantallegra’s release on May 15 the album has enjoyed immense success both in Korea and abroad and was even sold out in several stores.

Kim Junsu is currently on a seven-city Asia solo tour to promote and perform his solo album.

The one reason that makes me really proud and i guess i also never felt  regret to follow JYJ is these boys always keep showed to the world that even thought they have a limited access to meet their fans but it’s doesn’t makes them give up……They keep fight and stand up by their own way

these quotes really true

strengths until someone tries to take

“Living like a dream”

내가 기억해 너무 사랑했던 나의 여자라는 걸 기억해 너만큼은 I remember, the woman who I truly loved. I remember you.

시간이 지나도 너의 숨결이 남아 Even as time goes by, your scent lingers.

널 간직하고 마치 나의 품에 안겨있는 것처럼 It’s as if you are still with me in my embrace and I cherish you.

꿈일지도 몰라 This may be a dream,

너에게 줬던 얕은 상처가 The superficial wounds that I gave you,

내게 주는 깊은 벌일지도 몰라 Perhaps they are a deep punishment to me.

미안해서 한참을 울어요 Because I am sorry, I cried for a long time.

알 수 없는 곳에 At a place where I don’t know,

마치 또 다른 세상에 있어 as if in a whole other world.

날 추억에 버렸나요 Did you throw me away from your memories?

옆에 있어도 넌 내게 없는 것처럼 Even though I am beside you, it’s as if I’m not there.

니가 없는 곳에 더는 머물러 있을 수 없어 I can no longer stay at a place where you are not there.

다른 사람마저 사랑하는 니가 미워질까 What if I hate the you who can love someone else?

한참을 울어요 I cried for a long time.

알 수 없는 곳에 At a place where I don’t know,

마치 또 다른 세상에 있어 As if in a whole other world,

다른 사랑을 하나요 Do you have another love?

내가 없어도 넌 행복해질 것처럼 Without me, it seems like you can be happy.

어떤 공간에 있더라도 내겐 너 하나죠 No matter what space we are in, to me, there is only one you,

모두 변해도 Even if everything has changed.

너에게 떠나 If I leave you.

나 네게 없어도 Even without me,

지금처럼 웃을 수 있나요 Can you smile just like now?

이대론 살아도 난 살아 있지 않는 것처럼 Like now, even though I am living, it’s as if I’m not alive.

알 수 없어 I cannot know

너와 With you.

Starfox Entertainment Company’s representative Lee Da Hee expressed, “In actuality, it’s difficult to bear the production fees of a drama just through PPL (advertisements) and sponsors. The usage of Hallyu stars and idols are effective in helping the return of production fees, thus broadcasting companies and production companies prefers them.”

When a Hallyu star is casted in a local drama, just solely the overseas broadcasting rights would have earned back 60-70% of the production fees. For MBC’s ‘Dr Jin’ whereby Kim Jaejoong was casted, a record-high overseas broadcasting rights proposal was received. The overseas importers are also engaged in a fierce battle for the drama.

JYJ member Kim Junsu, who made a comeback as a solo singer, dripped with confidence. He stood in front of the press with his dream of singing music that’s different from the others as a singer of eight years, and he was bold.

His first solo album Tarantallegra, which was released on May 15, contained 12 songs full of the musical life he had led for eight years.

Kim Junsu met with the press on May 16 before his official promotions, and said, “I was pressured with having to step off on the right foot because I would be releasing the first solo album out of JYJ. In the past, I settled myself into the music and concepts that had already been developed, but this time I was happy to do everything myself from the start.”

“80 percent of the songs in my album went through me,” he said. “I felt the pressure, but I tried to go for diversity by including the styles and genres that I always wanted to sing solo. I believe that’s what differentiates the album from the ones in the past, and that’s also the main point of the album. I hope you pay attention to that.”

As such, Kim Junsu’s first solo album contained a pure mix of the expertise from his eight year career. He added, “I felt the pressure, but I was sad to see the uniform music that exists. I wanted to let people listen to something different.”

His album is actually receiving reviews that it’s completely ‘different’ from the music that Kim Junsu originally showed off, and the music that the public expected from him.

Kim Junsu said he was satisfied by such evaluations.

“I’m happiest when the fans and public talk about what I aimed for. A lot of people said that I’m much different because I’ve been a singer for eight years, and I was so happy. I believe I’ve scored a success if I set such an image. All of my concerns were blown away with that one evaluation.”

He did, however, seem burdened by the fact that he was releasing the first solo album out of JYJ, and that he wasn’t able to appear on music shows like other singers. As if to overcome, he continued to emphasize that he invested a lot into the music video for the first single cut and the album itself.

“It’s my first solo album in eight years. I feel great that I was able to release an album after learning a lot of different things. I don’t know when I’ll be releasing my second album, but I want to knock on more doors with music that’s different and in my own color.”

Kim Junsu will hold an exclusive concert not as JYJ, but as himself from May 19-20 in Seoul. He will then embark on a tour through six cities overseas.

(NEWS) 120516 Junsu says new music video cost ‘a lot of money’

Junsu, a member of the popular music group JYJ and a rising musical star, said on Wednesday that he wouldn’t mind if he was called Xia Junsu, which he had used for the formerly five-member boyband TVXQ.

He said that his newest music video of “Tarantallegra,” the first single from his solo album, may be one of the most expensive music videos he has ever made.

“If you had watched it, you could’ve imagined that it would be one of the most expensive music videos. If I considered only the Korean market, it would be excessive,” Junsu said at a press conference in Seoul on Wednesday.

“But I know that overseas fans can watch the music video. With my company’s strong support, I was able to shoot it,” he said.

Junsu, who is also known as Kim Jun-su and Xia Junsu as the member of JYJ, said “Tarantallegra” is a magical word that makes one quickly dance.

The music video illustrates and integrates magical fantasies with his music, voice, fashion, hair and costumes, he said.

He also noted that he reduced 6 kilos during his performances for the musical “Elizabeth” and his slimmer body expresses an image of a unisex magician in the music video.

JYJ, formed by the former members of South Korean group TVXQ, is made up of Junsu, Jaejoong and Yoochun, and all the three members are enjoying strongly popularity in Asia and elsewhere amid the heightened interest toward Korean pop music.

woot….woot…….our Junsu concert get cover by a French news agency, the oldest one in the world. It’s awesome ^_^

Kim Junsu, a member of popular South Korea boyband JYJ, on Wednesday announced plans for his first solo tour, a day after releasing his first solo album.

Kim, also known as Xia, said he would perform in seven Asian cities including Bangkok, Taipei, Jakarta and Shanghai from May to July, starting with a concert in Seoul later this week. The 25-year-old has been a member of two groups at the forefront of the K-pop boom which has taken Asia by storm over the past decade and spread as far as Europe and Latin America.

His first major band, TVXQ, has sold more than eight million records at home and abroad since 2003. Amid legal disputes with its agency, he and two of his fellow performers broke away in 2009 to form JYJ. They held 15 concerts in nations such as China, Spain, Germany, Chile and Peru over 11 months to March, drawing some 210,000 fans in all.

K-pop has devoted fan bases in some overseas regions, even though most Korean boybands have not officially released songs in Latin America or Europe.

More than 20,000 tickets for Kim’s Seoul, Bangkok and Jakarta concerts were sold out minutes after they went on sale online, his agency said.
“Such enthusiastic response from our foreign fans… who get to know our music on the Internet like YouTube… really stunned us,” Kim told reporters.

“Now I’m learning real hard how to speak basic phrases in countries where I’ll perform.”

Kim’s new album, a mix of electronic dance and R&B ballads mostly written by him, is called “Tarantallegra” after the Dancing Feet Spell featured in the Harry Potter books and films.
